PartnerRe pairs up schools with charities for Dollars for Hours project
Eight secondary schools will earn $30,000 each when their students team up with local charities again under the ‘Dollars for Hours’ project led by PartnerRe Limited.‘Dollars For Hours: Youth and Community in Partnership’ will distribute a total of $240,000 to public and private schools, and give hands-on support to local charities. “This is the sixth time that PartnerRe has paired local charities with the secondary schools, bringing our total Dollars for Hours donation to over $1,240,000 since the programme’s inception in 2006,” said PartnerRe president and chief executive officer Costas Miranthis.“As a Bermudian company, we have a sincere interest in Bermuda and in particular, the education of our young people. We hope that Dollars for Hours will continue to raise awareness, provide a valuable team-building experience for the students and complete important projects for a wide range of charities.”Students aged 14 to 18 years old from CedarBridge Academy, Saltus Grammar, Somersfield, the Berkeley Institute, Bermuda High School for Girls, Bermuda Institute, Warwick Academy and Mount Saint Agnes will take part, with each school adopting a different charity project. The projects include environmental schemes and heritage and health-related initiatives as detailed below:n Summerhaven: curb appeal project to enhance the entrance of the residential facilityn Bermuda National Trust: invasive plant species removal from the Glady’s Morrell Nature Reserven Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences: woodlands restoration projectn Habitat for Humanity: assist a selection of families with painting and gardeningn Crime Stoppers: design and create a calendar for the Bermuda communityn WindReach Recreational Village: enhancement of the petting zoo with a mural and paintingn Greenrock: a healthy harvest community garden to promote planting, harvesting, purchasing and eating local producen Bermuda Audubon Society: bluebird nest box constructionSchool students will complete each task within one or two weekends. PartnerRe will cover the cost of materials and will coordinate a showcase for students to share their experiences, once all projects are completed.
