RBYC hosts sailing event
Barr’s Bay Park will be the spot for hours of family fun on Sunday, thanks to the 4th Annual Family Festival of Sail.People of all ages are invited to come to the free event and learn more about water sports and sailing.Music, vendor food, free boat rides and a boat show hosted by the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, will all be featured with most activities going on from 11am until 4pm.If that’s not enough they can also take in some of the excitement from the final day of match racing in the Argo Gold Cup; and get information about match racing from the bleachers on the docks of RBYC.RBYC Commodore Jonathan Brewin said: "The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club members are pleased to host this 4th annual Festival of Sail as part of the Argo Gold Cup as a way to get more Bermudian families interested in sailing and water sports."Activities for the day include a public sail, hosted by The Spirit of Bermuda , from 4pm to 5.30pm.The sail costs $10 for children and $20 for adults and takes them from the RBYC to the Royal Naval Dockyard. Anyone wishing to take part can pay as they board, said organiser Starla Williams.A return ferry leaves Dockyard for Hamilton at 6.30pm; tokens are available at the festival.Bermuda Sea Cadets will give free boat rides and the African Diaspora Heritage Trail will have an interactive display at the event that includes descendants of the ship Enterprise shipwrecked at the Pitts Bay Road site.A spokeswoman said: “You can also sign on the commemorative sail [the] names of African-Bermudian families who you know have participated in the maritime community in the past and in the present.”The Bermuda Rowing Association will have rowing simulators and rowers available all afternoon.
