Gringley captures gastronomic delights of the world on canvas
Whether it’s sangria from Spain or a brick oven pizza from Italy, sometimes the most memorable aspects of travel comes from meals.Local artist Billy Gringley has captured some of his favourite culinary travel experiences on canvas, with his latest collection of works, “Food & Drink”.The pieces, depicting scenes from bars and restaurants around the world, go on display at Common Ground Cafe tonight at 5pm.Mr Gringley said: “Some of my favourite travel experiences involve tasting the local cuisine and discovering a great place to enjoy a drink.“[With this exhibit] I try to capture those impromptu moments and emotions and hope to evoke memories in those who view these paintings of a similar experience enjoying food and drink.”The artist started painting at a very young age, after being inspired by the beauty of the Island. By the time he reached adulthood he had received several awards and accolades for his work — the positive reinforcement further fuelled his interest and desire to become a professional artist. After studying his craft at the Art Institute of Maryland and the Studio Art Centres in Florence, Italy, he was able to feature his work in several solo and group exhibitions throughout Bermuda.Common Ground Cafe is located at 11 Chancery Lane, Hamilton.
