Jamaican Association invites everyone to it’s independence Day c
By Crystal HoldippWhile Jamaica celebrates its 51st year of Independence today. the Jamaican Association (Bermuda) will be celebrating the occasion on Saturday on board the MV Bermudian, featuring a guest appearance by reggae artist “Tinga Stewart”.The association will be “big ship sailing” for a cause and fellowship. They will be reaching out to two important initiatives.Bermuda Hospital Charitable Trust (BHCT) and Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) are receiving part proceeds of the funds.The proceeds will help with the BHCT building fund initiative in raising $40 million dollars and the female ward of the KPH.Marlene Flynn — Carty who is the President of the Jamaican Association (Bermuda) expressed a quote by the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Hon Portia Simpson Miller: “It is indeed a time of transformation when Jamaica needs to mobilise all its resources, primarily its human resources at home and abroad in one massive effort to transform this piece of the rock, this jewel of the Caribbean Sea, Jamaica Land We Love”.Ms Flynn-Carty recently went as a delegate representing the Jamaican Association in Bermuda at the National Association of Jamaicans and Supportive Organizations gathering at the Secrets Hotel in Montego Bay, Jamaica on July 18th to 20th.The big ship sailing cruise will be on the sea on Saturday, departing from Dockyard at 8pm and at Albouy’s Point at 9pm.Popular artist Tinga Stewart, who was born in Jamaica, began his career in the late 1960s. He has won the Festival Song Contest three times, including twice as a singer and once as a songwriter. He is well known for songs like “Funny Feeling” and “Play de Music”.The Jamaican Association (Bermuda) is looking forward to Tinga Stewart’s live performance on the cruise which was made possible through collaboration with Apache Promotions.JAB welcomes all people from different walks of life and backgrounds to join them in “one love, one heart and one people”.A statement released from The Jamaican Association (Bermuda) said: “We would like to take this opportunity to also invite other cultural groups on Island and the wider Bermuda in general to join the cause of supporting the BHCT with their building fund initiative.“Having us united on this worthy cause is without a doubt a win — win approach for the entire Island in creating a legacy of a world class hospital for future generations to enjoy.“We would not be able to host this event without our sponsors who have generously joined us in this outreach opportunity.“We are indeed grateful to Grace Foods, MoneyShop, Butterfield & Vallis, Bermuda Financial Network (through Western Union), Pepsi, TBI, Red Stripe and WKD — without them, we would not be able to successfully host this event.”Tickets are $50 dollars each which includes a meal and are available for purchase at Jamaican Grill, Fish and Tings and Kit N’Caboodle.
