Kicking it with Kidd Clazzic

Jahroy “Kidd Clazzic” Richards is the kind of 17 year old who likes to do things his own way. Not a lot of teenage boys would have the courage to wear pink beads, but he’s down with it.“I like them,” is his explanation for the beads.Mr Richards has just released his first rap song produced with the help of local music management company Playlist Management. His single is called Fly Away and also features fellow Bermudian artist, KeyKey Roberts on vocals. The song is inspirational and lyrics include the line:“If we ever gonna make it we gotta believe in ourselves, because at the end of it all there ain’t gonna be nobody else.”The single was recorded in Atlanta, GA in Orange Room Studios, one of Atlanta’s premier recording studios. The track was produced by IVibes Productions — led by Bermudian producer, Craig Simons.“I have been rapping since I was 11 years old,” said Mr Richards. “I like to express myself. You can say things with rap that you wouldn’t normally be able to say. I like putting it all together.”Mr Richards said he has gotten a lot of encouragement from the Chewstick Foundation Twigs programme that provides an avenue for self expression for the younger crowd.Theresa Minors of Playlist Management met Mr Richards and a group of his friends, several years ago.“I have been encouraging him ever since in regards to his style and aspirations,” she said. “A couple of months ago he came to me and said he had written some new material and is ready to go for it. I listened to it, and then I took him on from there full time. I have been encouraging him ever since.”Playlist is currently working to get Fly Away available on iTunes. It should be there in a few weeks. Until then, it is available on Mr Richards’ Facebook page and on YouTube.Mr Richards is hoping to release more songs in the coming months.“I am going to try different things during the year,” said Mr Richards. “The most fun thing about producing ‘Fly Away’ was getting in there and being able to be with award winning producers.”Mrs Minors said one of the things she appreciated about Jahroy was that he always tried to separate himself from the crowd.“He goes against the grain,” she said. “He stands up for what he believes in. He moves forward with that. If he sets a goal he strives to do just that. You can’t put him into a category because he is not like anyone else. He is an all around great kid and he has a lot of goals he is striving for. The motivation and dedication is there. We have built a team up around him to push him as far as we can take him, and hopefully help him check off some of those items and goals that are on his list.”Mr Richards said his overall goal was to become a music artist.“I have started off with rap but I could go anywhere,” he said. “This is just a starting point. I could go from rap to country for all I know. I just want to be a music artist and perform. I have performed at different venues around the Island.”When asked what he would like the rest of the world to know about him, he said: “I would want people to know that I am mellow.”For more information about Mr Richards and his music see his Facebook page under Jahroy Richards (Kiddclazzic).
