An entertaining documentary about international jewel thief Doris Payne has created a buzz of excitement around the Island.
‘The Life And Crimes of Doris Payne' screened for the first time to a sold out audience at the Bermuda Documentary Film Festival last weekend. A second screening for this Sunday at 3pm was quick to sell-out — and organisers have added a third screening on Sunday at 5pm.
The film is based on the true story of Mrs Payne, a glamorous and charismatic 82-year-old, who uncovers the secrets of her trade as a jewel thief and what drove her to a 60-year life of crime.
Ms Payne retraces her steps — from Paris, Monte Carlo, Tokyo, Miami and New York — telling how she managed to jet-set her way into any Cartier or Tiffany's, and emerge with a small fortune.
A feature length motion picture is currently being planned about her life, starring Halle Berry as Ms Payne.
The film will show in the TradeWinds Auditorium of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. Tickets are available at the Oceans Gift Shop at BUEI, or by calling 294-0204.
