A picture really can be worth a thousand words — or so author Rod Farrington discovered.

His latest novel, ‘The Life and Fast Times of the Bayou Bandits’, was inspired by a photograph taken on a trip to the Louisiana swamps.

The book tells of a fictitious family, modelled after his own, who serve as bounty hunters and spend their time looking for criminals in the swamps, mountains and jungles.

“What they do is go after criminals where other law enforcement officers have failed to take the criminals down,” Mr Farrington said. “This family, called the Bayou Bandits, take on jobs that others won’t touch. They don’t look for jobs, the jobs come to them. Other than that they are just as happy as can be being on the lake fishing and being in the swamps.”

Mr Farrington has written eight books. This recent one is the first he’s promoted on social media.

More than 300,000 people have viewed the book cover on Facebook so far, he said.

The book has also been picked up by Barnes & Noble and online sellers Books A Million and Amazon.

“The people that have followed my other novels will, I am sure, pick it up because of the nonstop action adventure,” he said. “Tourists are already drawn to my novels because they are about Bermuda, but in this case I think it will sell because of the [hit television show based on a Louisiana business] ‘Duck Dynasty’.”

The book is available at various locations on Island for $15. Mr Farrington will sign copies of his book tomorrow at Gorham’s from 10am until noon and at the Bookmart at Brown & Company from 1pm to 3pm. On Sunday, he will be at the Book Cellar from 1pm until 3pm.
