‘Tiny’ author donates books to Mount St Agnes for hunger drive

Children at Mount St Agnes Academy (MSA) had plenty to read during a special reading pledge drive to raise money for the hungry.

Local author Betsey Mulderig donated cases of several of her children’s books including ‘Tiny’s Bermudaful Cupmatch’, ‘Tiny and Sharkman — Superheroes’ and ‘Do-Boy Digs Bermuda’ to students from primary one to primary four at MSA.

Ms Mulderig said she chose the school because she went there as a child.

“If it weren’t for MSA I would not have learned how to read,” she said. “I also spent a bit too much time in class daydreaming and doodling which contributed to the growth of my far out imagination and my drawing skills. My brother, Robby, was first in his class straight the way through. I was not.”

Ms Mulderig was inspired to donate the books after reading about the school’s Read and Feed initiative in The Royal Gazette.

This month children in Kindergarten to Grade 8 had the opportunity to help tackle Bermuda’s hunger by collecting pledges from family and friends in the form of non-perishable items. In the pledges they promised to read a certain number of books. The pledges went to the Eliza Dolittle Foundation. At the end of the month, children will return to their sponsors with the record of what they have read, or in the case of the younger children, what has been read to them.
