Business and Professional Women’s Association’s annual candle lighting ceremony coincides with International Women’s Day

Philosopher Charles Malik once said that “the fastest way to change society is to mobilise the women of the world”.

And what better way to encourage masses of women then to host an event that gives them the opportunity to network, socialise and honour the progress and contributions made by women internationally?

The Business and Professional Women’s Association of Bermuda (“BPWA”) is set to provide just that through its annual candle lighting ceremony in celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8.

In addition to a cocktail reception and dinner, attendees will be treated to a keynote speech from success coach and The Royal Gazette columnist, Julia Pitt.

Ms Pitt will be speaking to women about the value in empowering oneself, and how that can in turn empower other female business leaders in the various realms they operate in.

The BPWA held its first candle lighting ceremony the year the group was formed in 1976.

Katie Partington-Howarth, the organisation’s President, said: “The Candle Lighting Ceremony has been on of our most anticipated events on our calendar.

“This year, in particular, we are excited as the ceremony coincides with International Women’s Day.

“What better way to celebrate this important day then honouring the progress of women with an organisation dedicated to the advancement of women in business and leadership?

“This year we will welcome success coach, Julia Pitt as our keynote speaker, who will undoubtedly share an inspiring and encouraging message.”

The event will be held in 98 countries at clubs across the globe.

Ms Partington-Howarth said it was unique for a charity on the Island to provide “interconnectedness with women the world over in this way”.

“The goal is that attendees will leave empowered and challenged to continue to strive for progress on their personal terms which in turn will affect the collective drive and progress of women,” she said.

“I hope that women will be inspired and encouraged to have celebrated and honoured International Women’s Day.”

The dinner will be held at The Riddle’s Bay Golf Club on Saturday, March 8. A cocktail reception will be held at 6.30pm, followed by dinner at 7pm.

Tickets are $80 per person, while tables of 10 can be purchased for $750. They are available at Orchid Nail Spa on Par-la-Ville Road; or can be reserved by e-mailing bpwabermuda@yahoo.com.
