According to fashion icon Coco Chanel the best colour in the whole world is the one that looks good on you.

The Royal Gazette lifestyle section took to the streets this week to find out what colour was most prominent in people’s closets.

Charcoal grey is a popular colour in Lisa Robinson’s wardrobe.

She considers it an amazing shade because it goes with practically everything. “It doesn’t matter what your skin tone or eye colour or hair colour is, it just suits everyone.”

Ms Robinson doesn’t give her style a lot of thought and therefore has more of an “accidental fashion style”.

“I’m actually inspired a lot by my daughter Ashley’s fashion blog and her passion for fashion. She has introduced me to a lot of fashion ideas that would have never been on my radar before.

“I think that my grown up style has been inspired by her artsy, opposite-to-me ways, so she has actually been instrumental in evolving my style.”

Chef Richard Reno, 29, said there’s no specific shade that stands out in his wardrobe. He believes that every colour has its place in fashion.

“I have every shade in there from A to Z,” he said. “Right now I’m wearing a lot of grey and brown and I also wear a lot of blue, but I would say I like all colours. It keeps things interesting because you don’t want to look the same twice.”

Mr Reno described his style as “new gentleman”. He feels that some men have forgotten how to dress themselves and simple aims to “bring class back” to dressing.

“I get some inspiration from GQ, what I know from my experiences and what I have laying around in the house,” he said.

“I do lots of shopping here and at [thrift stores like] The Barn where I get a lot of blazers and stuff and might just replace the buttons and get it fitted. I also look around the stores in Hamilton.”

Regina Simmons, 37, said her go-to colours at the moment are citrus and coral, which flatters her skintone, as well as iridescent metallics for accessories like shoes and handbags.

“Coral or apricot is a good colour for spring and can also be worn in the summer. It also looks good with my skin tone.

“I was drawn to it because it stood out when I was shopping the other day and the tone isn’t something you see often.

“I’m also really liking the iridescent metallics and bought quite a few accessories in it.”

She described her work look as a mix of business and sophisticated.

“When I go to work, I like to look professional so I will typically wear a suit (pant or skirt) with heels. However, I find looking “too corporate” can be boring so I like to add something unexpected, whether it be a nice piece of jewellery or playing with colour combinations.

“On the weekends I like to dress comfortably but try to be prepared for the unexpected. You never know who you’re going to run into.”

She said she gets fashion inspiration from magazines, online and from watching TV shows like ‘Fashion Police’ and ‘Project Runway’.
