Alexandra Outerbridge shares about what it’s like to be an entrepreneur and tells us about her latest business: Bash Box.

Alexandra Outerbridge understands that good ideas can be found in the most unexpected of places.

Last month while helping to plan a friend’s birthday bash, she found herself running around from one Los Angeles boutique store to the next trying to find cool stylised party supplies.

Tired and frustrated with the process, Miss Outerbridge and pal, Elle Rodriguez, figured there had to be a better way.

They came up with Bash Box — tailor-made boxes which arrive at your door with everything you need to host a party for ten to 12 people.

“We wanted to create affordable, cool boxes to help people with entertaining,” the 30-year-old Bermudian explained. “Every box has a cheeky or fun twist to it. We have these fun forks, which are custom-made and say ‘Eat Me’.

“And every box we create comes with a mini piñata, that’s kind of our thing. We live in LA and felt the piñata was the ultimate party symbol in this part of the world. Every time I go to a party with a piñata it’s usually a really great party.”

Miss Outerbridge isn’t a novice at starting up a new business.

Two years ago she created her own accessories line called Outerbridge Jewelry, which has since been embraced by celebrities such as Kylie Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Cara Delevingne and Georgia May Jagger.

She said there was something empowering about creating a company and having people buy into your vision.

“A lot of times people have it in them to have their own great idea or business, but they are afraid to pursue it because they feel other people won’t buy into it,” Miss Outerbridge said.

“But you’d be surprised by how many people love to see another person be passionate about what they do and create. I think you definitely have to be fearless to be an entrepreneur and have that self belief that what you have is special and there’s a place for it in the marketplace. With me, I’m confident in my ideas and believe there is a client base for it no matter what. And as long as I believe that’s all that counts.”

Miss Outerbridge also finds enjoyment in being able to design things that make other people happy.

“I just love creating and sharing my vision with people,” she added.

“I usually stumble upon something that I feel is a great idea and something that hasn’t really been done before. With this, for instance, I don’t think there is another party box out so we will be one of the first to perfect this business model and it will be interesting to see how for it goes.”

Although it’s only been a month since they started it, they’ve already received some great feedback. One of the draws is the $57 price point, she said.

“If you were to buy all that stuff individually it would come out to be so much more than what we sell it for, so people definitely like that.

“What I found when I was shopping for my friend’s birthday is that we ended up running around to at least ten different stores in search of cool party supplies and it was really tough to find everything we needed without having to go online or searching through boutique stores.

“We also ended up spending more than $100 on all the plates, cups, cupcake liners, party hats, matching napkins, balloons, etc. That’s how this whole thing started. We thought, why don’t we put all these things in one place? Then we came together to execute it and start sourcing all the items.”

She said they planned to release a new box every month, including one for baby showers, another for New Year’s Eve and a box with a “naughty edge” for bachelorette parties. Eventually they want to have an extensive catalogue so people can order a box for any holiday or occasion that pops up on their calendar.

“We might also grow to include party games and things like that,” she said.
