Berkeley gym roof trusses removed to be re-welded

Hasty work in putting up one of the main roof supports on the gym at the Berkeley site means it will have to be done again.

Work on the site ground to a halt in August when contractors Pro-Active were sacked by Government on the project which is years behind schedule and millions of dollars over budget.

Now some work has started on the site with MR Construction Ltd and Pimental Crane Services having to remove one of the four roof trusses last week because struts had not been fully welded.

Once source said it has added three weeks to the project and could cost thousands of dollars.

Acting Permanent Secretary Alexander Ming told : ?The Ministry is aware that corrective work on the roof will be carried out on the existing truss for the gym roof.?

Mr. Ming said he did not know how much the work would cost but denied it would delay the project.
