We've been left in limbo

Residents of Club Med said they were angry with the Government for providing little information about the move — leaving their lives in limbo.

No new date has been provided for the move, a woman said, and information about where they would go after was also not forthcoming.

The woman, who would not be named, said: “All I have found out about this move is what is in the papers.

“They haven’t told us much. I know they want us to pay a deposit of $700 and the first months rent before we move in. That’s a lot of money.”

She said many people have not started packing yet as they do not know when they are moving and many were unsure what to do with their furniture.

“There are definitely a lot of angry people here,” she said.

“The Government has given us so little information it’s frustrating.”

The residents were told ten days ago they would be moved to emergency housing at staff quarters on the former Wyndham site or the former Pembroke Rest Home because Club Med was too dangerous to live in.

Notices were placed on the site informing residents that they would have to “vacate” the site on March 30 but the Government revealed the Wyndham site was not up to fire code regulations this week.

Thirty-one people have signed up to the Bermuda Housing Corporation emergency housing list since from Club Med. The Government has yet to reveal the new moving date to the press or the residents.
