Government is seeking landscaping contractors for the up-keep of the Bermuda Railway Trail.

An advertisement in The Royal Gazette invited bidders to tender applications which are available from the Parks Department from now until April 27.

The Ministry of the Environment, Telecommunications and E-Commerce has advertised the placement, for a two-year period with the option of an additional year.

Previously, maintenance on the Railway Trail had been the responsibility the of Parks Department, however, after variety of issues, it was decided to outsource the labour three years ago.

According to Martin Duncan, acting Senior Superintendent, an in-house staff shortage was the main reason for the change.

He said: “We do monitor the Trail and if we see something that may have been overlooked, we usually call the contractor and bring it to their attention.

“We work in reasonable liaison with the contractor, and it has worked fairly well and I hope it will continue to do so.”

Green Man Landscaping currently holds the contract which was put out to tender in 2004, and was given a one-year extension.
