Turn on your car headlights in memory of work accident victims
Government is asking the Island to turn their vehicle headlights on for the International Day for Dead and Injured Workers and Health at Workday tomorrow.
Bermuda has been observing the memorial since 2003 when a special service was held at the Anglican Cathedral.
This year, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) estimates that workplace accidents will kill more people this year than wars.
Collin Simmons, chairperson of the Advisory Council for Safety and Health, is asking drivers to help remember workers who have been killed on a work-site, or have died as a result of work-related illnesses.
The day is now formally recognised by Governments in some 37 countries and territories — including Bermuda.
Since 1984, 13 workers have died as a result of occupational related injuries in Bermuda.
Approximately 350 workers on the Island have reported a major work-related injury that required hospitalisation.
