Mum's the word for JA cruise
THE Jamaican Association will host its first annual Mother’s Day cruise tomorrow night, according to JA president Ralston Wright , writes Walter Brown.
Known for its community spirit, JA has held a number of successful events, which have helped to bring together both the local and Jamaican and West Indian community for a collective goal.
Among some of JA past events have been:
— Winston Merritone Oldies Party, March 3, at the Berkeley Institute.
— Prayer breakfast, March 24 at the Bermuda College
— Caribbean Cup cricket match, sponsored by the Spring Garden Restaurant & Bar, at Shelly Bay on Sunday when opponents West Indian Association ran out easy winners.
JA celebrates Jamaica’s Independence in 1962 with an annual cruise — however, every five years it has an Independence banquet and ball.
“This year we saw it fitting to include a prayer breakfast,” said Mr. Wright.
“The Independence ball is slated for July 28 at the Southampton Princess Hotel. The boat leaves from Dockyard at 8 p.m. and from Albuoy’s Point at 8.50 p.m.”
Other events set for later this year are:
— Jamaica Diaspora Day Celebration in June
— 45th Independence celebration banquet
— Independence cruise, Saturday, August 11
— Annual community picnic and family day on Sunday, September 2 at Shelly Bay.
Tickets for tomorrow’s cruise are $40 including a meal. Tickets are available at Dub City, Jamaican Grill and I Between Boutique.
The event is sponsored by Spring Garden Restaurant & Bar, MarCarty General Construction, Wheels Cycles Ltd., Parkside Restaurant, Palm Rock, Bliss Hair Salon and Greg’s Steakhouse.
