“I was so happy when they announced that in front of the new Wembley they would put up a statue of my old West Ham captain Bobby Moore. And what a magnificent statue it is. Planners of the new stadium could not have picked a better person for the statue. Besides being a very good friend, Bobby was everything you could want in a player. And he was pure class. I have so many memories of him from my days with West Ham. The next time I am over in England the first thing I want to do is go down to Wembley and get my picture taken in front of the statue. Although Bobby died from cancer in 1993 at only 51, he will always be in the memories of England and West Ham fans — in fact of all the people who love the beautiful game.”
