<$> Anything is possible, and nothing has been decided yet. Gifford’s name keeps surfacing on lists, which she says surprises her because no one has officially said anything to her. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible, of course. In the meantime, she’s spending her time writing; recently she wrote the book and lyrics for Saving Ae<$>, a stage production of the life and times of early-20th-century evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson, which is currently onstage at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia.

Q: Are actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon still together? — L.RA:<$> They seem to be. The duo have been spotted in Los Angeles recently, seemingly having a good time together. So, at least at this writing, the answer seems to be yes.

Q: Bette Midler is such a great entertainer. Is she still doing her stage show? — N.

A:<$> Yes, the Divine One — still a knockout on stage — is due to take over the 4,100-seat Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, which was specially built for Celine Dion’s stage show. That show is ending, and Midler moves in next February for a two-year 200-show run.

Q: What is the actress who played Do on The West Wing doing now? — K.W.

A: Janel Moloney, who played the assistant-turned-political-operative Donna Moss on the show, is currently shooting episodes of another ies, Brotherhood. She’ll appear in several episodes of the Showtime series, which starts its second season in July.

Q: What is that beautiful actress Liv Tyler doing? — L.S.

A: She’s in the curr film Reign Over Me, co-stars with Diane Keaton in the upcoming comedy-drama Smother and stars in a thrillcalled The Strangers, due out in July. She also just signed to co-star with Edward Norton in The Incredible Hulk, playing Bruce Banner’s romantinterest.

Q: What is that acute actor Josh Hartnett doing? — M.F.

A:<$> He co-stars with Samuel L. Jackson in Resurrectithe Champ<$>, due for release in August, and in the thriller 30 s of Night<$>, due out in October. He’s currently shooting the da August<$> and is set to begin production on Theince of Cool<$>, playing trumpeter Chet Baker, but first will start shooting the drama I Come With the Rain in Hong g this month.

Q: I think Emma Roberts is really talented. What is she doing now, and did she learn to act from her aunt? — K.G.

A:<$> Undoubtedly, acting is in her genes, both from her Aunt Julia and her father, Eric Roberts. Sixteen-year-old Emma, the star of Nickelodeon̵Unfabulous<$>, plays famed teen detective Nancy Drew in the film of the same name, due out this summer — around the same time when she is set to start shooting another film, cad Wild Child<$>, in which she plays a spoiled Malibu princess.

Q: I just saw The Illusionist and thought Jessica Biel was great. What is she doing ne — K.R.

A:<$> S#8217;s in Next<$> with Nicolas Cage, currently in release, and then co-stars with Adam Sandler in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, due out in July. She̵l follow that with A Woman of No Importance<$>, co-starring Annette Bening.

Q: Is it true that Jane Fonda and Lindsay Lohan are feuding? Why? — M.K.

A: No, they’re not exactly feuding. But the veteran and very professional actress was none too pleased that Lohan’s partying caused some delays we they were filming Georgia Rule<$>. Fonda merely gave her a motherly warning that you can’t burn both ends of the candle and continue to produce good work, which she said would be a shame because Lohan is very talented.

Q: If actor and politician Fred Thompson decides to run for preside will he still be on Law & Order? — L.C.

A: No. As we go to press, the show hasn’t yet got its pickup order for next season, but if it does, Thompson’s role would be recast. Equal-time rules mean that NBC would have to feature all of the Republican candidates if they show Thompson, which wouldn’t be possible. And given the demands of running for president, Thompson wouldn’t be able to continue anyway. A thornier issue is what would happen to all of the repeat episodes running on various cable networks; TNT, USA and Bravo would be under the same equal-time rules and would have to somehow excise his appearances on those episodes.
