Dame Jennifer heads to Uganda to speak on female leadership

The Island's first elected female Premier has headed to Uganda to speak at a conference on female leadership.

Dame Jennifer Smith joined women Parliamentarians from across the Commonwealth to discus the topic of Women and Leadership in a Democracy.

Dame Jennifer said of the forum: "There will be a strong focus on the issues faced by women Parliamentarians and key women leaders in the course of their work."

The forum, held this week, took place in the Parliament of Uganda in Kampala, while a satellite meeting is scheduled to take place from June 11th to 14.

The key objectives will be to bring together female parliamentarians and leaders to assists with their professional development, allow attendees to exchange experiences and good practices within democratic decision-making and for attendees to gain an increased understanding of gender in politics, among other things.

Dame Jennifer said: "Selected women Parliamentarians from across the Commonwealth have been invited to attend. In addition, I have been asked to lead one of the Sessions and to stay on to represent the CPA at the ministerial meeting".
