Students at some public schools were sent home early today due to a work to rule by teachers.According to a Government spokesperson despite sick-outs and the work to rule most public schools stayed open thanks to the efforts of principals, support staff, parents and education officers. However the spokesperson added: “In two cases it was determined that closing school early would be necessary. M2 and M3 students were dismissed from Whitney Institute Middle School. Students from Clearwater Middle School will be dismissed at 1 p.m. Berkeley students are also out of school.”
Five primary schools could close and a new senior alternative school be built as the Ministry of Education looks to take drastic measures to improve student performance.
While the changes are still in the preliminary phase, some of them could be implemented as early at September.
An Education spokesman said: “We have to look at some bold changes that are going to results in better outcomes for our students.”
This information was not set to be released to the public but after a document was leaked, an education official shared the information with this newspaper.
