Delegation heads to Grand Cayman for CPA conference

BERMUDA legislators will represent the island at the 32nd CPA Regional Conference of the Caribbean, the Americas and the Atlantic Region in Grand Cayman next week. The delegation, led by Government Whip Ottiwell Simmons, includes Dame Jennifer Smith, who is the regional representative and serves on the CPA international executive committee, Walter Lister, Senator Wayne Caines, and Clerk to the Legislature Shernette Wolffe, who serves as honorary secretary.

The conference will be held from June 24 to 30 with the theme “Embracing Change in the Way we do Business: Efficient Government”.

Bermuda’s delegates are scheduled to make the first presentation on the topic “Democracy and Human Development — The involvement of the citizen”.

Other topics to be addressed by the conference will include law enforcement and regional co-operation, underachievement of male youth in the region, tertiary education towards a new regional approach, the role of civil servants and environmental protection.
