Studies of charitable giving set for release

Brian Duperreault

Two landmark studies of charitable giving in Bermuda will be released at the third annual meeting of a philanthropic organisation today.

The Centre on Philanthropy, an organisation that strives to provide more efficient and effective voluntary action, compiled the Giving Survey and the Third Sector Manpower Surveys.

Pamela Barit Nolan, the Centre of Philanthropy’s Executive Director yesterday encouraged the public to attend the meeting as they reveal the results of the two surveys.

Ms Nolan said: “The Centre has had a very busy and exciting year. As we prepare to begin our next fiscal year, we encourage everyone to come to learn and listen, share ideas, and provide the valuable input that we need to ensure that The Centre is positioned to serve as a resource and an advocate for the Third Sector in the months and years to come.

“Together we will have an impact.”

Examining the Bermuda donor community - both local and international corporate donors, plus individual households, the Giving Survey will hopefully answer what influences a donor’s decision to give and what donors expect from nonprofits.

The second survey compiled and the first of its kind for Bermuda is Third Sector Manpower Survey of the nonprofit workforce.

PricewaterhouseCoopers was commissioned for the survey which will give an in-depth look at jobs available and the salaries and benefits they provide.

Ms Nolan added: “Many people are often surprised to find that you can have a career that is both emotionally and financially rewarding in the charitable sector.”

The meeting will be held on Friday, June 22 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, and chairman of the Centre, Brian Duperreault added: “The meeting will also provide stakeholders the opportunity to make suggestions, ask questions, and to share ideas about areas The Centre should focus on in the year to come.”

All are welcome to attend this event.

A light lunch will be served at 12 p.m., with presentation starting promptly at 12.30.
