Help heal Bermuda's divisions
A candle lighting ceremony will be held this weekend to celebrate the positive aspects of Bermuda and help heal divides across the Island. The community initiative, Imagine Bermuda 2009, wants people to meet at Albuoy’s Point on Sunday at 8 p.m. till sunset.
An organiser said the aim was to hold “a demonstration of the common bonds that link our community and an act at affirming the mutual respect that holds our society together”.
Imagine Bermuda 2009 aims to encourage people to come up with solutions to the Island’s problems as it enters its fifth century of continuous settlement and should be lauded for not only looking back, but looking forward as well.
He said they decided to hold the event this weekend “in light of the circumstances that our Island has been going through in recent days” — such as allegations of Government corruption and a report which found the public education system wanting. The event will be attended by people who have helped to build Bermuda’s community, including Christopher ‘Kit’ Astwood, Reginald Burrows, Dr. George Cooke, Gilbert Darrell, Ernest DeCouto, Eddie DeMello, Marion Dejean and Quinton Edness.
There will also be a candle lighting ceremony and a “Moment of Reflection”.
