Bermudians being helped to achieve their ambitions
As one Bermudian reaches the highest position at the Island’s waste facility six more are being trained to do the same.
As part of the Government Initiative to train Bermudians for posts in the workforce, students from CedarBridge, Berkley and the Bermuda College will study power engineering at the Cambrian College of Applied Art and Design in Sudbury, Ontario.
The six Bermudians who will attend the three year course are Trace Easton, Uthmani Talbot, Nijae Burgess, Timothy Agustus, John Tucker and Colin Richardson.
It will also involve a co-op experience both in Bermuda and plants in Canada and successful candidates will be qualified for employment at Tynes Bay as supervisors.
RECYCLING INITIATIVE:
Announced only last week, the Government is also working hard to ensure the public knows what to recycle and partnering with them are five progressive companies on the Island.
Ace Group, the Bank of Butterfield, Bank of Bermuda, the Fairmont Southampton Princess and the Cambridge Beaches Hotel have all given their support for their initiative.
Recognising the hard work these partners have already accomplished in raising awareness of recycling, Minister of Works and Engineering Dennis Lister, last week presented them with certificates of participation.
Mr. Lister said: “While many of these initiatives have already been introduced by our first business partners these organisations may not have received the full recognition from the community regarding their environmental initiatives.
“Through Recycle Bermuda Business Partnership Initiative, Government not only intends to recognise businesses for their praiseworthy efforts to recycle, but will continue to raise awareness on the benefits of recycling among all segments of the community.”
Each new partner is expected to introduce recycle receptacles within the workplace, ensuring recyclables are collected and delivered to the Recycling Centre and promotion of the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) by circulating literature throughout the company on a monthly basis.
The businesses have three months to introduce these changes and will then be given a plaque signifying their work and a certificate.
Mr. Lister added: “We are extremely delighted to have the support of our first business partners- ACE Group, Bank of Bermuda, Butterfield Bank, Fairmont Southampton Princess and Cambridge Beaches Hotel who have given us their support to this vital initiative.”
