A teenager was slashed as he left a Hamilton cinema in the early hours yesterday.

The 18-year-old from Warwick was taken to hospital with lacerations to his left hand and right arm after the attack outside the Liberty Theatre on Union Square just after midnight. Police said the youth was approached by four unknown men, one of whom used a bladed article on him.

“The suspects then made good their escape on foot,” said a Police spokesman, who added that the victim’s injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Three of the suspects wore dark clothing while the fourth had dark pants and a striped shirt. The victim declined to make a formal complaint but officers are investigating the attack. Witnesses are asked to call the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

*Two tourists had a bag snatched from their rented motorcycle in Sandys on Tuesday.

The couple were riding out of Dockyard alongside two friends on another bike when they were targeted by three youths on motorcycles.

One of the teenagers swerved his bike in front of them, forcing them to stop on Cockburn Road, near the junction with Pender Road.

The other two — who were on a bike together — then snatched a brown and black knapsack from the back of the couple’s scooter, before all three fled.

The visitors were not injured. The bag contained cash, a Canon digital camera, a Motorola cellular phone and personal items.

The three assailants were black, believed to be aged between 15 and 17 years old and two of them wore helmets with visors while the third had a helmet without a visor.

Police are asking witnesses or anyone with information about the mugging to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.
