Gang attack victim suffers knife wound

Gangs attacked two men in Pembroke on Saturday, wounding one with a knife and kicking the other to the ground.

In the first incident, a group of eight men approached a 29-year-old resident walking along Laffan Street at 10 p.m.

They pushed him to the ground, kicked him and stole his Casio watch.

The men are described as black and in their twenties.

A Police spokesman said: “The Pembroke man did not report being injured. Inquiries into this incident are underway.”

In the second attack, a 40-year-old man was assailed by up to 15 youths in Parsons Road between 10 p.m. and 10.15 p.m.

The spokesman said: “A struggle took place and one of the young men struck the victim with a bladed article.

The Pembroke man then chased his assailants, who managed to make good their escape on foot. The victim sustained a laceration to the head.”

The man was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital but later discharged.

The youths are described as between 12 and 15-years-old. The main suspect is of medium build and wore a light coloured t-shirt.

Last night Robin Simmons, Assistant Police Media Relations Manager, said: “It is fairly unusual anywhere in Bermuda to have attacks of this nature but it is something we are looking into. We are conducting inquiries to find out who is responsible.”

Witnesses to either of these incidents are urged to call the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295 0011.
