Man caught with drug in increased penalty zone
A 20-year-old Pembroke man admitted in Magistrates’ Court to possessing 0.41 grams of free-base cocaine that was found to be 84 percent pure.
Jahmico Trott, of Stovell Bay Road, pleaded guilty to having the drug, in an increased penalty zone on October 28, 2005.
Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told the court at around 9.05 p.m., Police were patrolling Elliott Street in Pembroke and noticed a silver car that was parked on a double yellow line.
When officers approached the vehicle they saw two men inside, noticed the smell of burnt cannabis and asked them to step out.
Trott appeared nervous and fidgety in front of Police before they searched him under the Misuse of Drugs Act and found a twist in one of his pockets that contained rock-like material.
He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station, where he was charged with having the controlled drug.
In court, Trott, who is currently serving a three-year prison sentence relating to another drug conviction, apologised for “wasting the court’s time,” to Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.
Mr. Warner fined him $1,000 for the cocaine and another $1,000 for having it in an increased penalty zone, with an additional three months at Westgate by default.
