Marsh employees spruce up PCC

We did it! Staff of Marsh nc. recently spent a day sprucing up the Pembroke Community Centre on North Shore Road in conjunction with Keep Bermuda Beautiful and the Department of Parks. The community service project included collecting trash, planting Bermuda cedars, and installing KBB trash bins around the property.

More than 20 Bermuda employees of Marsh, the world's leading insurance broker and risk advisor, rolled up their sleeves and worked in conjunction with Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB) and the Bermuda Parks Department to spruce up the grounds of the Pembroke Community Centre on North Shore Road.

Their good work was part of an initiative by Marsh to give something back to the community and "adopt" the centre.

During the day, Marsh employees picked up 30 bags of trash, planted 12 Bermuda cedar trees, and painted and placed KBB garbage bins around the property.

The centre is used by younger children and adolescents from the Bermuda Tae Kwon Do Association, the Bermuda Ball Hockey Association, and L'Ecole Service After School Care for martial arts training; ball hockey on the outdoor rink; and the provision of childcare services on the playground, respectively.

"We are delighted to be working with Keep Bermuda Beautiful and the Bermuda Parks Department to help brighten the Pembroke Community Centre, which is a hub for recreation for many of the area's young people," Chris Reeves, a managing director of Marsh Inc. and president of Marsh Global Placement (Bermuda) Ltd, said.

"At Marsh, we consider ourselves fortunate to live on this beautiful Island, and we recognise the need to preserve our environment for the future. We are glad to help maintain one of Bermuda's parks for everyone's enjoyment."

Richard Lathan, executive director of Keep Bermuda Beautiful, praised Marsh for its community initiative.

"We commend Marsh for taking the initiative and volunteering their time to help maintain Pembroke Community Centre. By forming strong partnerships between corporate entities, the Government and private citizens, we can help advance the cause of preserving and protecting the Island's physical environment," he said.

"We encourage others to follow Marsh's example by being a good corporate citizen," Park Officer Craig Burt added. "We are excited to see a member of the corporate community take an active and long-term role in improving our local park lands. We look forward to an ongoing relationship with Marsh."

In a further commitment to the environment, Marsh recently became a 'Recycle Bermuda Partner' with the Recycle Bermuda Partnership Initiative. The Government programme commits local businesses to increasing awareness of the benefits of recycling and promoting participation within their company.

Marsh has 26,000 employees and provides advice and transactional capabilities to clients in over 100 countries. It is a unit of Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC), a global professional services firm with approximately 55,000 employees and approximately $12 billion of annual revenues.
