Premier congratulates new Foreign Secretary
The Premier has called for frank discourse between the UK and Bermuda in a letter of congratulations to the new Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.
David Miliband has been appointed to the role in UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s new Cabinet. In a letter to Mr. Miliband, Dr. Ewart Brown writes: “Your well deserved reputation as a critical thinker on policy makes you a fine choice for this very important office.
“As you know, Whitehall has a longstanding relationship with the people of Bermuda because of our status as an Overseas Territory. That relationship continues now under your leadership.
“My Government looks forward to working with the newly appointed Under Secretary Margaret Munn as she operates in her role as liaison for all Overseas Territories. We expect the dialogue between Bermuda and Whitehall to be frank and open and productive.
“Best wishes to you and your team as you represent the people of the United Kingdom at home and around the world.”
