PLP plans rally
Another hint was dropped about an imminent General Election yesterday when the Progressive Labour Party announced a political rally titled The Main Event.
Hundreds of supporters are expected to attend West Pembroke School Field tomorrow, when Premier Ewart Brown will unveil some of the party’s candidates for the Pembroke constituencies.
It comes after George Scott, Zane DeSilva and Marc Bean were announced as candidates for constituencies 28, 30 and 31 last week.
Promoting the event at a press conference yesterday, PLP spokesman Wentworth Christopher claimed he did not know the election date, but said the party would always be ready for one.
Mr. Christopher said the rally would involve speeches from the Premier and candidates and performances from entertainers.
“Hundreds of the PLP faithful are anxiously looking forward to attending what we will call The Main Event,” said Mr. Christopher. “We know that our supporters are waiting with heightened anticipation to hear the names of other candidates for the various constituencies throughout the Island.
“On Thursday evening, our party leader, Dr. Brown, will announce candidates for some of the Pembroke constituencies. These candidates will be as intelligent, articulate and enthusiastic as the previously announced candidates, as are all of the candidates selected to help the PLP with three straight elections.”
On the election date, Mr. Christopher said: “We have no information at this stage when the election will be held. We are always in preparation for an election. We are very upbeat. We have cause to be.”
Gombeys, Sia Spence, Larrita Adderly and Jalani Simmons will help provide the entertainment, while refreshments will be available and the PLP store will be selling flags and T-shirts. The event starts at 7.30 p.m.
