Man fined $800 for cocaine
A Pembroke man admitted in Magistrates’ Court yesterday, to possessing an indictable amount of cocaine when he was stopped by Police relating to another matter.
Ronico Richardson, 21, of Middle Town Lane, pleaded guilty to having the controlled drug contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told the court that on December 5, 2006, Richardson was spotted by uniformed officers on mobile patrol on Angle Street, in Pembroke.
When they stopped and detained him for another incident, they searched him and discovered a paper twist inside his left pocket that contained a rock-like substance. When questioned about it, he told them, “It’s coke... cocaine.”
He was arrested and transported to the Hamilton Police Station and the substance was later analysed and found to be .34 grams of cocaine. Police picked him up Monday on a warrant for originally failing to show to answer to the offence.
Richardson apologised to Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner for his actions, before Mr. Warner fined him $800 with a period of 80 days default at Westgate.
