Former Cambridge Beaches maid stole belts
A former maid of Cambridge Beaches stole three belts and was caught after her manager set up a sting operation.
Sharone Kay Smith, 18, yesterday pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to taking three brown belts worth $300, two silver rings and $40 in cash from two hotel rooms over a period of a month this year
Rachel Loriviere, Smith's supervisor, suspected her of stealing the items when tourists started reporting things missing from rooms where Smith was assigned.
One June 22, Ms Loriviere placed $59 and two silver bands in a dresser drawer.
After Smith cleaned the room, Ms Loriviere informed the Police that $40 and the rings were missing.
Police found the rings on Smith and the cash under her bike seat.
A later search of her house found other missing items including the three belts, which Smith told Police she stole to wear.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a social inquiry report and bailed Smith on $1,000 to return to court on September 18.
