The Royal Gazette published a story on Friday about students from Saltus getting stranded after being refused entry to France because of confusion over their passports.

Today we publish a useful list of numbers in case you are travelling abroad and need advice.

The primary difficulty applies to holders of Bermudian passports issued before 2002, because the "British Dependent Territory" passports do not state that the holder is a citizen of a British Overseas Territory, the terminology applied in 2002 when all BOT citizens became eligible for British citizenship.

In general, Bermudian holders of British passports do not require visas for any country in the European Union.

However, visa regulations can vary from country to country and anyone holding a Bermudian passport should check visa requirements for all destinations before travelling either with a travel agent or the country representatives themselves.

Bermudians, with a Bermudian Passport or those with a British Passport, have the right to visit British Consulates abroad for assistance.
