No confirmation of gunshots on Court Street on Wednesday

Police were unable to confirm reports of gunshots on Court Street on Wednesday.

Residents called police Wednesday night to say they heard gunfire, but when officers arrived they found nothing to substantiate the reports. A Police spokesman added: "A strong Police presence was maintained in the area following the initial reports and no further reports of similar activity were received.

"Police continue to encourage the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals to their nearest Police Station or 295-0011."

US Coast Guard takes over Emma Goldman incident

An investigation by the United States Coast Guard has been launched into the death of William Thorn who was swept away in the Atlantic Ocean.– Thorn, a 64-year-old American, was sailing to Bermuda on a 41ft sail boat when it was submerged.

His fellow sailor Dennis White told The Royal Gazette he had to cut Mr Thorn loose from the sail boat's rigging because he was caught underwater. He was then swept away while Mr White -and Mr Thron's 25-year-old daughter Amanda, who was also on board — watched on.

The Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit conducted preliminary inquiries because the surviving two sailors were brought to Bermuda however a full investigation into the matter is now being conducted by the US Coast Guard.
