Arnolds Market Ltd. was fined this morning after an operating manager representing the company admitted in Magistrates' Court the company had illegally importing produce.
According to Crown counsel Robert Welling, a search of Arnold's Market stores on March 9 revealed imported broccoli and carrots repackaged and available for sale.
“In at attempt to conceal evidence, they even went so far as depositing them in a dumpster,” Mr Welling said.
Carrots are embargoed year round, while broccoli is embargoed seasonally.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined the company $600 for each offence, saying: “I guess there's no carrots for Christmas this year. Except local carrots.”
