Minister makes construction training pledge

Economy Minister Kim Wilson today said up-to-date jobs figures are not available as Government awaits the completion of the 2010 census. But Senator Wilson said the 4.5 percent unemployment statistic from last year will have likely increased given anecdotal evidence of redundancies during the economic crisis. The Minister called a press conference this afternoon to address concerns following Bermuda Employers' Council's claim 3,000 jobs have been lost over the past two years. She said Bermudians in the construction industry — the worst hit sector throughout the recession — will be given training to ensure as many as possible can take advantage of job opportunities as a result of the imminent King Edward VII Memorial Hospital redevelopment.
