Late night shuttle has taken 5,000 drinkers home safely

An anti-drink driving group has helped more than 5,000 people get home safely through a free shuttle programme.CADA's ‘Let Us Drive' initiative has provided thousands of people with an alternative to drink driving since its inception in May 2007.It is available to party-goers every Friday night from 3.15am to 3.45am on Reid Street. And with the help of corporate sponsors like Bacardi Limited the programme will be able to help hundreds more into the future, said CADA chairman Anthony Santucci. He said the group was “extremely pleased” to have support from Bacardi, which was the first backer of the programme.“The Let Us Drive service has become an important option for people, who have been out drinking on a Friday night, to get home safely.“While we will never be able to count the number of lives saved, we do know that giving people an alternative to drinking and driving is indeed saving lives.“So far we have taken home almost 5,000 people. With the generous donations made by Bacardi and the reception attendees we will be able to take home hundreds more.”Bacardi Limited president and CEO, Seamus McBride, said the company was proud to be a “sponsor and champion” and to “continue to have its name associated with the important consumer safety initiative”.Other corporate sponsors are: Gosling's Ltd, Burrows Lightbourn Ltd, Fairmont Bermuda Hotels and The City of Hamilton.
