Viewers offered solution to TV disruption
Television viewers who have been without two major channels can watch them again thanks to a deal struck between the BBC and cable provider WOW.The agreement between the two companies means WOW is offering ZBM channel nine and ZFB channel seven free of charge to homes without any cable service subscription. The channels have been off the air due to broadcast outages caused by lightning damage to BBC’s main transmitters.A joint statement said that the BBC was already airing channel seven with reduced power but wanted to “continue its examination and repairs of the entire system” before transmitting at full power.WOW president and CEO Stanley Wright said viewers wanting the channels would need to call for a UHF digital antenna and receiver.“We at WOW will create a special tier to carry the BBC channels free to those homes without any form of cable service,” he said.“Under the plan, persons can immediately contact the WOW offices to receive the free over-the-air feeds for the next three months. The special tier will also include a feed of the weather channel.”BBC CEO Rick Richardson said: “Our engineers have been working over the past two weeks to locate and repair all faults within the transmitter and antenna system.“They have resolved the problems with one station but all signals must be shut down to allow workers access to the tower [on Fort Hill in Devonshire] to effect additional checks and repairs.“We are pleased to have WOW as a media partner to deliver our signals at this time. We obviously value all of our viewers and appreciate their wish to view our networks.”l To get the two channels from WOW call 292-1969.
