Five men arrested as suspicious cargo is seized
Five persons were arrested and a "significant quantity" of suspected drugs seized by police today.Bermudian sailors Carlos Rogers, 41, and Kwesi Hollis, 36, were arrested after they arrived at St David's - 52 days after they left the Dominican Republic for Bermuda.Their vessel, Carefree IV, was seized.Three men were arrested earlier this morning following a police raid on North Shore Road in Smith's.Officers have released few details about the drug bust, which happened off Penhurst Park Dock.A quantity of drugs was seized and that vessel also impounded.Said a Police spokesman: "Police officers have intercepted two vessels this morning during a marine operation, one being the Carefree IV."As a result five individuals have been arrested, including the two man crew of the Carefree IV and a significant quantity of suspected drugs has been seized. An investigation into the matter is ongoing."Mr Rogers and Mr Hollis left the Dominican Republic on Carefree IV on December 1.The men were last seen 150 miles nautical miles southeast of the Island on January 3. Before that, they had not been heard from since December 18.On both occasions they took on provisions from passing vessels and said they intended to continue to Bermuda.Concerns for their safety amid winter storms led to a two-day air search by a US Coast Guard plane just before Christmas.
