Friends organise fundraiser in honour of Leaha Lanfear, who died in a road accident last year
A fundraiser will be held tonight for a hair stylist who died following a road traffic accident last month.Leaha Lanfear, a 24-year-old from the UK, was badly hurt when her motorcycle crashed near the junction of Corkscrew Hill and Crow Lane on December 16.The senior stylist at Renaissance Hair, Skin & Body Salon was airlifted to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where she succumbed to her injuries just before Christmas. Her friends are hoping the Leaha Lanfear Memorial Celebration/Auction will help offset some of the incidental costs incurred.A Facebook page set up by Lyndsey Clarke, Liz Young, Nicky Hiles and Natalie Hinchcliffe is encouraging the public to support the event.“We have arranged a charity auction/celebration to take place at the yacht club to raise money for Leaha’s family to help them with the financial costs of this awful tragedy,” said Ms Young.“We also wanted to show just how much Leaha was loved in Bermuda. Those of you that had the pleasure of meeting Leaha will know what a truly wonderful person she was and how much she is missed.“She had such a huge impact on all of us and Bermuda really isn’t the same without her. Having met her family it is easy to see why Leaha was such a wonderful and kind person as they are such a close, loving and supportive family.”She and her friends had been overwhelmed by the generosity of companies and the people of Bermuda, Ms Young added.“As a result we have some excellent items to raffle and auction including, golf days, weekends at hotels, spa days, sailing, diving, jewellery, various items from iStore, phones, dinner at all the major restaurants and much, much more.“So let’s come together and celebrate the utterly fabulous life of Leaha Lanfear and raise some serious money!”The event takes place at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club from 7pm until 11pm.Tickets $50 can be purchased by e-mail: Leahalanfearmemorialauction[AT]hotmail.com, or on the door.
