B-TEC carries hi-tech torch from XL/Bermuda initiative
Corporate leaders and Government came together last night to launch the Bermuda Technology Education Collaborative (B-TEC), which will continue work started by the XL/Bermuda Education initiative in integrating technology in schools.
The $22-million-plus scheme will spread into the middle and primary schools.
B-TEC Executive Director Diane Miller said: "This is not philanthropy. We want to raise the bar to provide a higher calibre of employees."
Berkeley Institute Marica Burgess said she was learning to build a website dedicated to successful young black males.
Stanford University Assistant Professor of Education Brigid Barron said children showed a lot of enthusiasm for technology.
She said: "They like to do Internet work so adults can see what they are capable of."
