BA flights expected to resume tomorrow
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 2: Snow continues at Britain’s Gatwick Airport, but a British Airways spokeswoman said the company expects flights between Bermuda and the UK to resume tomorrow.
BA’s Bermuda airport manager Marianne Wilcox said the Island’s Gatwick connection, grounded since Sunday by severe weather, should start operating with BA flight 223 departing Gatwick at 2.25pm Friday, due into Bermuda 6.20pm.
“We are expecting BA flight 2232 to depart Bermuda at its usual time of 8.01pm,” Ms Wilcox said.
BA sent an empty emergency flight from Heathrow yesterday, which was able to land a number of Bermuda-stranded passengers back at Heathrow this morning.
Some fliers grounded in the UK had asked why the flight could not have brought any of them over along with it. Ms Wilcox said BA had only been able to send a just-landed flight on to service the Island.
Reports from Gatwick on Thursday indicated the airport remained at a standstill.
A source at Gatwick said at 6.30pm UK time: “More snow is coming down now. Even shuttle trains between the North and South Terminals are not running due to ice. No trains means no Gatwick Express, and restaurants are closing as they cannot get resupplied with food.”
Gatwick’s website says the airport will stay closed until at least 6am tomorrow.
