Breaking News: Clearwater Middle School to remain closed until Friday
Clearwater Middle School will remain closed until Friday as staff await the outcome of air-quality samples there.
Government issued a statement this evening, citing ongoing maintenance at the east end school as another reason for the delayed opening.
Clearwater was expected to open for classes tomorrow, along with public schools across the Island.
Clearwater principal Carlos Symonds and staff members are now in the process of calling parents to let them know about the delay.
Said a Government spokesperson this evening: Mr. Symonds said that after discussions with the teachers regarding the maintenance works and while awaiting the outcome of follow-up air quality samples, a recommendation had been made that the opening of Clearwater be delayed until Friday, 10 September, 2010.
The recommendation had been supported by the Commissioner of Education, and the missed instructional days will be made up during the course of the school year.
Last month the Ministry of Education reported that air quality was being tested at Clearwater after asbestos was found in a portion of the kitchen ceiling.
