Breaking News: Paula Cox is sworn in as Premier
Paula Cox is the new Premier of Bermuda following a swearing-in ceremony at Government House today.
Cheered by a large crowd of supporting MPs, civil servants, family and friends at around noon, Ms Cox declared she would be revealing a “fierce and fearless” shaken-up Cabinet team on Monday.
The Premier said she would be embarking on a mission to restore public confidence, reduce tax and make savings, while maintaining a treasury portfolio in addition to her Premier duties.
She also spoke of her long service to the Progressive Labour Party and dismissed suggestions she was receiving a “coronation” simply because of the legacy of her father, the late Finance Minister Eugene Cox.
Referring to last night’s convincing victory at Devonshire Recreation Club, she said: “I have no doubt that that was not done as a kneejerk reaction. Many of them weren’t even old enough to know my father.
“They voted for Paula Cox, not withstanding all the drivel that’s been written about me.”
