Breaking News: Water truckers call emergency meeting over shortage fears

Bermuda’s water truckers have called an emergency meeting tonight to discuss water shortages on the Island.

The Bermuda Water Truckers Association (BWTA) said despite a shortfall last summer, Government does not have a plan in place to prevent the same thing happening this year.

A press release from the organisation said: Shorter operating hours due to less available water has crippled our efforts to meet the demands of the residential and commercial sectors.

Nine months of rain between June 2009 and March 2010 should have been ample time for Government to have contingency plans in place so as to avert another annual crisis.

It isn’t a matter of insufficient water trucks on the road, it is a matter of not enough water when needed.
