Cruise ship suffers steering problems

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 4: The cruise ship Costa Atlantica made a call for help after developing steering problems just ten minutes out of Dockyard.A spokesman at Maritime Operations said: “Investigations are still ongoing. At 1.10 pm we got a call from the pilot to inform us that the vessel had steering problems, in the north channel around buoy 34. We dispatched two tugs which are with her now and are taking her to safer water.“We don’t know if she will be brought back to berth or put to anchor.”
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 4: The cruise ship Costa Atlantica was back underway this afternoon after developing steering problems just ten minutes out of Dockyard.
A spokesman at Maritime Operations said: “At 1.10 pm we got a call from the pilot to inform us that the vessel had steering problems, in the north channel around buoy 34. We dispatched two tugs which are with her now and are taking her to safer water."
The spokesman said the ship encountered difficulties in a narrow bottleneck of the channel, and at 2 pm was being taken to better sea room. Later, the ship was able to get back underway and has now left for its next destination.
The 292 meter ship has 1,927 passengers aboard.
