MONDAY, NOVEMBER 22: Union officials have signed up to an international initiative to protect the rights of migrant workers.

Bermuda Industrial Union is supporting the Building Workers International project set up to ensure appropriate treatment of foreigners following a huge increase in migration across the world.

Announcing Bermuda’s involvement in the scheme today, BIU officials pointed to growing problems in the domestic industry, where non-Bermudians are made to work long hours for little pay and hardly any vacation.

An advertising campaign will take place in the coming weeks to make workers aware of their rights, they said.
