Island records first road fatality of 2007

A 20-year-old involved in a road collision on Friday afternoon died of his injuries in hospital on Saturday morning.

Stephen Andrew Lee, of Hamilton Parish, was travelling west on North Shore Road in that parish when his motorcycle collided with a jeep exiting Tony's Fine Foods store.

He was catapulted onto the windshield and then landed on the ground.

Mr. Lee was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in a critical condition, and succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Saturday.

His death is the first road fatality of 2007. Friends had, by yesterday afternoon, erected a banner in his memory near the scene of the collision. One read: "One Love. Gonna miss you Stephen. See you in Heaven."

Family members did not wish to speak publicly about their loss.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has any information about it, should contact P.c. Romeo Allen on 293-2222.
