The Pembroke Rest Home will close on March 31. Last year the rest home came under fire after claims were made that residents received sub-standard care and the facility was run down.

Yesterday, Minister of Social Rehabilitation Dale Butler said in the House of Assembly: ?You may well be aware that the Pembroke Rest Home has had infrastructure challenges for many years.

?The Government, along with the Pembroke Parish Council have attempted to address those challenges by carrying out renovations of all kinds whilst the clients have been in residence. The Government decided to close the premises so that it can undergo major renovations.?

The current residents can move to the newly-opened Sylvia Richardson Care Facility or opt to move to another private or public rest home, if there is available space in these facilities.

Mr. Butler said the residents and their family members had been informed of the reasons for the move and the options available to them.
