Police record quiet Halloween weekend

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1: Police said this morning that last night’s Halloween was one of the quietest for years.

The Police, supported by the Bermuda Reserve Police, were out in large numbers during the course of the Halloween weekend.

A spokesman said: “Although the weekend was busy, the number of Halloween-related disorder incidents was notably less than anticipated making this one of the quietest Halloween events in many years.”

In total there were 79 arrests, 43 of which were for warrants. Despite advice to motorists about drinking and driving, there were eight arrests for driving while impaired — four women and four men. There were also three arrests for driving while disqualified, 13 people were arrested for drugs and five for dishonesty offences.

There were 16 incidents of rocks and eggs thrown at vehicles and two reports of gun shots heard, but no evidence found to corroborate either report.

The spokesman added: “Police were very active conducting stop and check operations and reports indicate the public was very patient and supportive of their efforts to make Bermuda safer.

“Police reported large numbers of revelers, particularly on Saturday night, however, good humour prevailed and it was clear that the vast majority of people were out for some harmless fun. The Bermuda Police Service takes this opportunity to thank everyone for doing their part to make this Halloween a safe event.”
